Voice of the Pacific Inc - South Pacific NZ Citizens in Australia

Strengthening disadvantaged South Pacific communities in Victoria and nation-wide. We advocate for the everyday person in today's Australian society.

Established in 2012, following growing concerns of community leaders, govt officials regarding the disadvantaged position that many New Zealand families have been adhered to by the Australian Government. Despite paying Aust taxes, super and levies, NZ Citizens are being denied access to goverment support, assistance, higher education, jobs and health benefits- specifically, those living with a disability.

In particular, many Pacific Island and Maori communities experience ongoing disadvantage in Australia based on language, misinformation, isolation, lack of community governance training to name a few. Much of the services available cannot meet these needs effectively for many reasons- the most evident is that of bad policies in forced.

VOP therefore advocates vigorously on behalf of all unheard South Pacific Voices and aims to bring to the fore a clearer picture of these real life realities, providing services for the unmet needs at the local level until adequate changes are in place. VOP aims to lobby these concerns appropriately with a united and collaborated front by through joint ventures and collaborations where appropriate and otherwise.

The committee members range from community backgrounds, knowledge, skills and expertise from various industries and community groups. We are dedicated to our cause, and from experience, we know that rubbing shoulders with the right people provides opportunities to voice our issues, constructively and effectively for the best possible results. We owe it to our people to do our utmost best.

"We understand how our people do things at the grassroots and are able to transfer this information accurately to where it needs to be heard. This is where change can happen but it requires consistency, support, awareness and commitment"

Committee meetings are held on a monthly basis at 251 Queensberry Street, Carlton, VIC.
